Context

After over 6 months working on the Moov’Hanoi project at ACROSS LAB (Thuy Loi University), I had the opportunity to present our research at the international Gama Days 2024 conference.

This was my first time presenting a scientific paper to an international research community.

The Paper

Title: “Moov’Hanoi: A Data-Driven Agent-Based Model for Simulating Multimodal Urban Mobility in Hanoi”

Authors: Nghia Truong Tuan, Patrick Taillandier, Ines Langlet, Maxime Bisbau, Alexis Drogoul, Arnaud Grignard

Key Contributions

  • Built a multimodal traffic simulation model for Hanoi
  • Used real data from mobility surveys
  • Agent-based model on the GAMA platform
  • Tested scenarios for improving public transportation

Lessons Learned

  1. Prepare thoroughly for Q&A — reviewer questions are deeper than you expect
  2. Live demos — running simulations live makes a stronger impression than static slides
  3. Networking — conferences are opportunities to connect with researchers in your field
  4. Write early — don’t wait until the deadline to start writing

What’s Next

I’m continuing to develop the model, adding more data and improving accuracy toward a full journal paper.
